Optimisation of a DataMatrix module

created on 15.07.2011

A DataMatrix module needs to be optimised in terms of cost, installation space and production logistics for the purpose of mass production.

Current Situation:
The original system comprises a standard board camera with the dimensions 34 mm x 34mm and an external mechanical bracket. This bracket has placed the remaining system modules (out of sight in the image) on the DataMatrix level. The optical axis was deflected accordingly with the aid of a prism. In addition, the system relies on a separate LED board and additional lighting.

Optimisation:
The layout of the camera was adapted in line with the surrounding system modules, so that these can now be positioned on the direct axis to the DataMatrix level.

What is more, the mechanical camera holder and prism can be removed from the system architecture. This considerably reduces the installation space and the hardware costs.Where the production logistics are concerned, combining the camera electronics, lighting and lens in an integral module brought a decisive advantage: the client can now install a ready assembled and programmed/calibrated module during final assembly.
